365 films in 2016: film 60 (History of Rock 2015)

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 19.17.02.pngI’ve watched a lot of films this year but this is a weird one, it’s more of a montage really, something similar to that Coppola film with all the different things happening on the planet at the same time, you know the one. History of Rock is a cool little thing about, well you guessed it the history of rock, the format for this is pretty interesting since it’s displayed though like a facebook timeline kinda thing which admittedly makes the whole experience flow a lot nicer but it’s also kind of corny and will feel very dated in like 5 years if facebook disappears or changes its layout, also the comments from musicians can be kinda cringe at times even if they are real quotes (and come on guys Courtney Love really? there’s no need for that).

admittedly all pre-90’s rock kind of really bores me except a handful of pre-90’s artists that stand out from the bunch, to me there was just so much more in terms of progression and diversity when it came to rock in the 90’s and the popularisation of grunge spawned so many great punk bands (and a lot of bad ones, i know) But i really enjoyed this film, if you’re a fan of Girl Talk this is literally the perfect film for you, in fact don’t even bother finishing this post go watch the film now because you’ll fall in love with it.

History of Rock was a really cool, enjoyable film, It’s nice to see a rock related film that’s inclusive of more than 4 genres and bands that are all multi millionaires now and the audio is mixed incredibly well, but i do kind of feel like this film is a gimmick in a way, never the less it is a very fun gimmick regardless. History of Rock is a 7/10.

In 2016 i will be watching 365 films (yes, i know there are 366 days this year) and writing about how I felt about them, I decided to do this just because over the last year or so i’ve Sort of pulled away from film and I wanna start to enjoy watching movies again. This will normally be just notes I made or thoughts I have about the film.
